Nachos!

Since I found out I have Gestational Diabetes, I've been really craving some of my old favorites.  I did a little researching and found some recipies that I can't wait to try!

These zesty nachos are tantalizing to the taste buds, provide approximately 29 grams of carbohydrates, and are a good way to work in a little calcium and a serving of vegetables into your prenatal diet.

To make: layer 10 corn tortilla chips—just over 1 ounce in weight—on a baking sheet and top with 1/4 cup of grated cheddar cheese and 1/4 cup of chopped green pepper (or use hot peppers, if preferred). Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from oven and transfer to plate. Top with 1/4 cup of tomato salsa and a tablespoon dollop of low-fat Greek-style yogurt.

Health Tip: Because flavored tortilla chips tend to contain lots of sodium and, even worse for moms with gestational diabetes, added sugar, stick to plain corn tortilla chips.

Gestational Diabetes = Postitive

I had a feeling once I found out I was pregnant that I had a high chance of getting Gestational Diabetes due to my weight.

My first visit to the Doctor, she tested my blood and my results were a little high, then at 24 weeks she scheduled me for the 1 hour Glucose test.  I've heard that the Glucose Drink is very horrible to drink... however I thought it tasted just like flat Sunkist.   Well that test came back positive and I was on my way to take the 3 hour Glucose Tolerance Test.  3 hours!

Let me tell you, that drink IS HORRIBLE!  it has twice as much glucose!  Yuck!  It made me hot and dizzy and I wanted to pass out!  But I knew if I got sick I'd have to retake the test, and there was no way i was coming back and drinking that stuff again!   I made it the 3 hours and couldn't wait to eat.  TGIFridays was around the corner and it was on my mind since I walked through those doors to have the test done.   Starving...We arrive at TGI Fridays.  What the hell, it was closed!  Not a happy camper!

A day later, I received my results...   Positive..  Dum Dum Dum (really bad noise effects).   I have to now watch my Carbs and take my blood sugar 4 times a day.  My husband is being very supportive and is helping me plan meals and snacks.  I have never hated Grocery shopping until this week.  We have nothing in our house and there appears to be nothing that I can eat that I like.

I know I have to do this, not only for me but for my baby Biscuit.

Baby Shower Games

I know I'm not suppose to plan my own baby shower, but I'm excited to play games!  I played this game at one of my friends baby showers and everyone had so much fun.  It's a basic Match Game and you get Candy for the prizes!!!  What's better then Candy?!

If you're hosting a baby shower, you want to have creative games that work for both the younger and older crowd. One simple game that will get everyone involved is the Match Game. First, create a list of pregnancy related terms. To make this game even more enjoyable, come up with prizes that go along with the terms. Here are some examples you can use, with prizes.

1. Conception - Skor
2. Father - Big Hunk
3. Umbilical Cord - Rope Licorice
4. OBGYN - Mr. Goodbar
5. Poopy Diaper - Raisinets
6. Midnight Feeding - Milky Way
7. Bottle - candy bottle
8. Pacifier - Ring Pop
9. Baby talk - Snickers
10. Pregnancy Forgetfulness - Watchamacallit
11. Hemorrhoids - Hot Tamales
12. Anesthesiologist - Lifesavers
13. Baby Names - Baby Ruth
14. Doctor Bill - 100 Grand Bar
15. Twins - M&Ms

There are plenty of other pregnancy and baby related terms you could use. Be creative with your prizes.
Get a big piece of cardboard that you can have someone hold or lean against a wall or couch. Use 3x5 cards or thick paper to put the terms on. In big, readable letters write or type the terms on cards. Remember to make two of each word or phrase. If you use 16 terms, that's 32 cards. On the back of each card, put a number. Make sure it's large enough for everyone to read. Tape the cards in numerical order onto the board. If you have 32 cards, you can do a grid of eight across, four down.

When you're ready to play, make sure you have your list handy so you know what prize goes with each match. Go around the room and have a person pick two numbers. Show each card and read the terms aloud. If it's a match, take the cards off the board and give the person their prize. Keep going around the room until all the matches are found.

Hello 6 Months!

I haven't been very good at keeping up with my blog.  I guess if I had a bigger following I would be better at it. :)  I suppose if I did a better job, I might get a bigger following lol.

I am officially 6 months now.  Things are going great.  Being pregnant for the first time, I am such a worrier!  It never bothered me that I coudln't feel the baby, prior to actually feeling it.  Now that the baby moves a lot, I worry when I don't feel it!  I worry if I am smooshing the baby, if my size is limiting the ability for the baby to move as much as needed.  I worry about the dogs and when they jump up to tell me hello and snuggle close at night. I worry about driving, going out in the weather and doing everyday house chores.

We went 2 weeks ago to determine the babys sex.  I don't know about the rest of you, but dang those sonograms hurt!  I end up with bruising on my lower stomach.  I think they have to push so hard to get through all my "excess padding".  Ouch!  The baby is growing great, the heartbeat is 150-152.  The baby was sucking on it's four fingers and you could see the mouth moving.  Noice how I keep saying Baby and It's?  That's because the little one was sitting indian style and not showing anything!  That made me chuckle, my baby is part Native American!  And it shows that it has his daddys stubborness!

We are schedule to go back and have a Level 2 ultrasound soon.  I told my husband that it would be ok to be a surprise, however he is dieing to buy baby stuff and just has to know!

We have officially decided on a boy name and a girl name.  That will be a secret until a later day.

I hope everyone is doing fantastic and enjoying this wonderful fall weather.  Happy Football Day!
